Australian-born mezzo-soprano Anna Dowsley regularly sings leading roles with Opera Australia before beginning a promising international career
In 2016, she made two major role debuts at the Sydney Opera House performing Dorabella in Sir David McVicar's new production of Così fan tutte conducted by Jonathan Darlington and Rosina in Il barbiere du Siviglia conducted by Andrea Molino and she began her international career in Japan as Dorabella (Così fan tutte) for the Tokyo Arts Foundation.
Recently, she performed Smeton (Anna Bolena) and Madelon (Andrea Chénier) at the Sydney Opera, Dorabella (Così fan tutte) at the Melbourne Opera, Geneviève (Pelléas et Mélisande) by Debussy with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by Charles Dutoit and Pitti-Sing (The Mikado) at the New Zealand Opera. She also performed in Don Giovanni (Zerlina) in Bari, Carmen (title role) in Nüremberg and Cesti's L'Orontea in Sydney. She has also sung Meg (Falstaff) with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko, Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, A Midsummer Night's Dream de Mendelssohn with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Simone Young, Déjanire by Saint-Saëns with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo and Norma (Adalgisa) at the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova.
Among her recent and future projects: Le Nozze di Figaro (Cherubino) in Cologne, Dead Man Walking in Detmold, Cosi fan tutte (Dorabella) in Adelaïde, Dido and Aeneas (title role) in Queensland, some concerts with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and one tour of recital in Australia. From season 2024/2025, she will be part of the Ensemble of the Oldenburgishes Staatstheater.
