Véronique Gens – Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik

The “Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik” committee has awarded Véronique Gens its “Honorary Award 2024”!
This honorary award is presented to outstanding personalities who, as performers, artists or producers, have made a notable contribution to the recording of music on audio and video media.

“How fortunate we are that Véronique Gens did not become a translator! She has nevertheless taken on the role of musical interpreter, using her warm, lyrical voice above all to bring the vocal treasures of her country and language to the world. The spectrum of this remarkable French soprano from Orléans stretches from the Baroque treasures and operas of Mozart and Gluck to the Romantic operas and irreverent operettas of the 19th and early 20th centuries, right up to Poulenc. She is equally at home on the concert stage. In 1986, she made her debut as a member of William Christie’s ensemble Les Arts Florissants, still flourishing today. A year later, she was part of the chorus for the ensemble’s groundbreaking recording of Lully’s “Atys”. Since then, she has appeared – often under Christie, Marc Minkowski, René Jacobs or Philippe Herreweghe, and more recently under Christophe Rousset or Hervé Niquet – on over 80 discs. She has sung three solo CDs of arias under the title “Tragédiennes françaises”. But she also has a sense of humor – just listen to her operettas on the Palazzetto Bru Zane!” (Manuel Brug)

Congratulations to Véronique Gens!
